Microseasons of Japan
Poster series
The concept
For the “Microseasons of Japan” poster series, one uniquely coloured and designed poster was created for each of the 72 seasons of the ancient Japanese calendar. The designs aimed to balance modern aesthetics with inspiration from traditional Japanese artforms, such as sumi-e (black ink) drawings.

“Mon” inspired icons
Traditional Japanese emblems or “mon” are beautifully designed devices used to identify individuals, families or organisations. The 72 microseasons of Japan are split into 24 divisions (three seasons per division), each of which were each given a “mon” inspired icon in the poster designs.
